Bapu was written by Monika Kowaleczko-Szumowska and published by the National Book Trust of India. It tells a story about the evacuation of Polish children from Siberia during World War II and their stay at a Camp built for them by the Good Maharaja. The book is for children and youth aged 10+. Its narrator is an Indian girl named Kopal. The book is thematically connected with the “Brave Bunch in India” webdoc directed by Tomasz Stankiewicz, produced by the Nil Desperandum Foundation. Bapu shows the fate of Polish children in the context of the Good Maharaja’s family and his own children.
Bapu will be illustrated by the outstanding Estonian artist Urmas Viik, who is a professor and head of the Graphic department in the Estonian Academy of Fine Arts. Urmas is also the creator of the graphics for the “Brave Bunch in India” webdoc, thematically connected with the book.
